Obituary

Rether Dell Lewis, 77, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Orange Park Medical Center, Orange Park, Florida. Rether was born on Monday, September 24, 1934 to Willie Sr., & Nancy (Proctor) Lewis in Edison, Calhoun County, Georgia. She was educated in the Shellman, Randolph County, Georgia School District. For over 45 years, Rether has resided in Putnam County, Florida (since December, 1966) especially Crescent City. She was a migrant farm laborer who was a very industrious lady in providing for her family. She was a longtime employee of Russell Harper's fernery in Pierson, Florida. She especially enjoyed being a "community mother" by raising her neighbor's children and was very passionate about fishing. She was also a dynamic old-fashioned hairdresser especially with hot curlers and straightening combs. She was a member and "Church Mother" at Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ, Crescent City, Florida under the leaderhip of Elder H. Harry Banks. She was preceded in eternal rest by her: son, Jessie Lewis; 2 sisters, Mary Lewis, Sarah Powell; 4 brothers; Robert Lewis, Johnny Frank Lewis, Ulysses Lewis, Willie Lewis, Jr. Those who will cherish her legacy her: sons; Norris L. Lewis, Crescent City; Curtis A. (Martha) Lewis, Atlanta, GA; Ron L. (Sharon) Lewis, Crescent City; daughter; Azzie A. Lewis, Atlanta, GA; sisters; Azzie R. Lewis, Palatka; Gloria J. (Joe) Anderson, Albany, GA; 14 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives, church family, and caring friends. Homegoing celebration will be 11am, Monday, February 20, 2012 at Johnson Temple Church of God In Christ, 1150 Huntington Road, Crescent City, Elder H. Harry Banks, Pastor-Eulogist. A memorial tribute will be 11 A.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Union Hill Baptist Church, 2749 Fountain Bridge Road, Shellman, Georgia. Interment will be in Martin Cemetery, Shellman, GA.
