Retha Marie Davis, 60, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, March 3, 2020 at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville. A native of Hastings, she was the daughter of Walter Randolph Harris and Annie Laura Taylor, born on Thursday, November 19, 1959. She was a 1977 graduate of Apopka Memorial High School. She earned an Associate degree in Supervision & Management at Wallace Community College, Clarksville, TN., certification in Computer Aided Drafting at ITT Technical Institute, Nashville; and obtained her cosmetology license through Wilfred Beauty School. Retha was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, serving as a Petroleum Supply Specialist. She was a person trainer at Gold Gym, reigning as the champion at the Women's Deadlifting Championship in 1997. Retha was raised in a musically inclined family, became a talented musician at an early age. She was a member and served as musician at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was a passionate pianist and would play gospel music all day in her home. She enjoyed listening to music, arts and crafts, and baking, all while spending time with her precious grandchildren. Retha was preceded in eternal rest by her brother, James Harris, Sr. and sister, Minister Emma L. Sharp (November 30, 2018).
She leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Eric (Lia) Harris, Afghanistan; Michael (Robin) Harris, Mount Dora, FL; mother and step-father, Annie (Joseph) Braddy, Palatka; grandchildren, Da'Shaun, Michael, Jr., Trinity, Adriena, Jayden, Kayden, Zia; siblings, Ella Mae Holmes, Walter Harris; sister-in-law, Lula Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 13, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration with Military Honors will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 14, at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 North 19th Street, Palatka, Reverend Anthony Q. Robinson, Sr., Pastor. Interment will be 9 a.m., Monday, March 16, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville.
