Obituary

Raymond "Gator" Bryant, Jr., 62, of Palatka entered the sunset of life on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Kindred Hospital - North Florida, Green Cove Springs, following an extended illness. Gator was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka (Raymond and his twin sister Rachel) born on Sunday, October 9, 1949 into the blessed family of Raymond Sr., and Essie Mae (Studimire) Bryant. Affectionately called "Bubba" by family members, he was a graduate of Central Academy High School, class of 1967. He was employed with the former Hudson Pulp and Paper Mill (now Georgia Pacific) and Florida Furniture Industries. Raymond loved Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, his Pastor, Superintendent Johnny Shaw, and the church family. He enjoyed all sports; however, he was an avid 100% Florida Gator football fan. Raymond married his lifelong soul mate on January 7, 2006 Celestine Lisa Cross. In addition to his father, he was preceded in eternal rest by his aunt, Elena Hough; uncle, Edward Studymire; cousin, Wardell Peter Scott; and nephew, Darryl Bryant. Those who will cherish his memories; devoted wife, Celestine Lisa Bryant; beloved mother, Mrs. Essie Mae Bryant; sons, Raymond Bryant, III, Terry Vickers (Norma), all of Palatka; daughter, Wilma (Louis) Williams, Palm Coast; sisters, Patricia Bryant; twin sister-Rachel Bryant Lee, Judy (David) Fuce, all of Palatka; just like sisters, Sandy Sellers, Vicky Bess, both of Palatka; just like brothers, Ray Michael Bess, Palatka; John (Lois) Manning, Reggie (Stynia) Manning; aunts; Lillie Manning, Grace Gutmanis; god parents, Deacon John & Kathy Melton; sister-in-law, Pam Floyd; brothers-in-law, Joseph Jackson (Helen), Palm Coast; Oliver Jackson (Barbara), Lakeland; Howard Hagans, Jacksonville Beach; 6 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, godchildren, devoted cousins, special friends and other relatives. Visitation of family and friends will be 5 - 8 p.m., on Friday, July 13th at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14th, at Pentecostal Church of God In Christ, 624 North 9th Street, Palatka, Superintendent Johnny Shaw, pastor, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
