Quilla "Buddy" Elkins, 60, of Orlando (longtime resident of Palatka), went home to be with the Lord, resting in eternal peace on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Orlando V.A. Medical Center. The son of Willie and Marjorie "Margie" (Sanders) Elkins, he was born on Thursday, April 25, 1957 in Cross City, FL. He was a 1975 graduate of Palatka Central High School. Upon high school graduation, Quilla enlisted into the United States Army, and proudly served our great nation and earned an honorable discharge. At an early age, Quilla joined the Palatka House of God Church and recently accepted Christ into his life and became a born again Christian. He was a self-employed lawn and landscape contractor. Quilla was an avid FL Gators fan who loved entertaining family and friends, cooking out, joking around, and fishing.
In addition to his father, Quilla was preceded in eternal rest by two Sons, Quilla Elkins and Quilla Donerson; Brother, Cleveland Timmons; Uncles, Richard West and James Sanders; Aunt, Myrtle Lee West; Cousin, Jerome Madison; Brother-in-law, Leverte Wright.
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, LaFonda Elkins, Sanford; loving mother, Marjorie "Margie" Sanders-Elkins, Palatka; sisters, Constance (Darryl) Elkins-Brummit, Sanford; Dorothy (David) Elkins-Wright, Barbara Elkins-Wright, both of Palatka; Mary Anderson, Gainesville; Brother, Minister James Baskin, Pensacola;
15 grandchildren; Aunts, Phyllis Sanders Dorsett and Cynthia Sanders Maxwell, both of Miami, FL; Nieces, Satonya Wright, Omega Smith, Sabrina Wright, and Shanti Wright; Nephews, Kearfer (Toronda) Medlock, Cecil (QwaShonda) Thomas, Cleveland Timmons, Octavious Graves; Great Aunts, Maybell Sanders and Carrie Sanders Jefferson, both of Charleston, SC; special cousins, Rudolph & Phyllis; Godsister, Arlane Ellis, Daytona Beach; Godbrother, Gregory Johnson, Palatka; special friends, Omar Seville, Billy Fells, Anthony Nealy, and Kenneth Golden; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends at will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2017 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." A Celebration of Quilla's Life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, September 9, at the Palatka House of God Church, 723 North 19th Street, Palatka, Dr. G. L. Evans, Jr., Pastor, eulogist. Interment with military honors in Oak Hill West Cemetery will be scheduled after the inclement weather subsides.
