Pauline Smith-Mumphry, 68, of Chicago Heights, IL, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Palos Community Hospital, Palos Heights, IL. The third of eight children born to Willie James "Jimmie" Smith and Hattie Sanks-Smith, she was a native of St. Augustine and was educated at Richard J. Murray High School, St. Augustine. At an early age, she was baptized at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, St. Augustine and has resided in Chicago since the 1970s. She was united in marriage to Rufus Mumphry on March 30, 1976. During her career, Pauline excelled in customer service and was a dedicated employee of K-mart (over 10 years) and package handler with UPS (over 18 years). She was a member of New Faith Baptist Church International, Matteson, IL.
In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in eternal rest by her brother, Louis "Mickey" James Smith; sisters, Lessie Smith-Lawrence and Patricia Smith-Dauda.
To cherish her memories: loving husband of 40 years, Rufus Mumphry, Chicago Heights, IL; daughters & son, Eshe J. McGee, Park Forrest, IL; Shemean L. Mumphry, Matteson, IL; Rufus Mumphry, Jr. III, Chicago Heights, IL; 3 grandchildren, Sylvester E. "Trey Jones, III, Matteson, IL; Olivia J. & Ryleigh J. McGee, Park Forrest, IL; sisters, Joann (Dennis) James Morgan, Houston, TX; Hattie (Eddie) Smith-Floyd, and Rose Smith, both of St. Augustine; brother, Jeffrey "Duck" (Dina) Smith, Norfolk, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Public visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, December 17 with Homegoing Celebration at 11 a.m., at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 280 Duval St., St. Augustine, Rev. Richard Madison, Jr., Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment: Sanksville Cemetery, St. Augustine.
