Obituary

Paul Le'Roy Johnson, Jr., 38, of Palatka (former Sanford resident), entered the sunset of life on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka. The son of Paul Leroy Johnson, Sr. and Veronica "Victoria" Foster, he was a native of Palatka, born on Saturday, December 12, 1981. He was a graduate of Palatka High School, class of 2000. He was employed as a Customer Service Representative by JPMorgan Chase & Co. Paul was an avid dancer who grew up dancing in talent shows since the age of 9.  He always knew he wanted to dance and it came naturally, yet he was reluctant to take dance lessons.  He attentively watched Michael and Janet Jackson, MC Hammer, Usher, Aaliyah, etc.. Paul Jr. loved to watch "The Golden Girls" and "Martin" and his favorite artist was Brandy "The Vocal Bible" Norwood.

  • In the early 2000's Paul Jr. was a (director/choreographed) a group called Southern Vibez in Palatka.
  • In 2005, he took his first dance class in Jacksonville at Dansations and his first dance teacher was Gina Garcia.
  • In 2006, he started going to dance workshops.
  • In 2007, he met Kavin Grant and joined A Rhythm Nation Dance Company. Later on in life, he and Kavin became best friends.
  • In 2007, Paul Jr. took his first flight and traveled to Los Angeles with Mrs. Kim, Chantel, Ryan, Cameron, Greg and Janet for two weeks of dance training!
  • In 2008, he went to New York for the first time to train at Broadway Dance Center. Paul traveled to Los Angeles every six months for a long time. Auditions after auditions, being an extra in movies and meeting talented people.
  • In 2009, he started teaching at Studio 1014, Neptune Beach, FL.

Paul's dance journey offered him numerous opportunities to train with the most famous hip-hop choreographers in the dance industry. He was able to study under some of the greats like Chuck Maldonado, Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio, Edge Performing Arts Center, Millennium Dance Complex and International Dance Academy. He was the company choreographer of Another Level Dance Crew in Jacksonville;  taught weekly dance classes at Dance Depot, Umatilla; Orlando Ballet in Orlando; and  was a guest dance instructor at Windermere Preparatory School.

In April 2019, Paul Jr. was casted as a background talent & a precision driver in the movie, "Bad Boys for Life" (Martin Lawrence and Will Smith). In July 2019, he was casted as a background talent in Chris Brown and Drake "No Guidance" music video.

In September 2019, he was diagnosed with cancer and it was the hardest thing he had to deal with but he refused to let his diagnosis and prognosis stop him.  In November 2019, he was casted in "Daddy Yankee" and Nicky Jam "Muevelo '' music video.  Paul, Jr. filmed a scene for Love & Hip-Hop Miami, and was casted in an overseas artist (Victoria Krut) music video, "Shadow". He was also casted as a background talent in Papi Yerr and Tory Lanez music video. Although he started professional dancing at a late age, he was always determined and never gave up! Paul, Jr's mission was to encourage his dancers to reach their greatest potential through the power of dance and music.  He wanted them to never give up on their dreams, goals, aspirations and desires in life! He quoted, "You don't want to look back and have regrets."

Paul, Jr. was preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Yolanda D'Neshia Johnson.

Paul's love and memory will be forever cherished by his mother , Veronica V. Foster; father, Paul L. Johnson, Sr., both of Palatka; brothers , Travon Johnson, Palatka; Reginald McHellen, Jacksonville ; sisters : Paula Johnson (his twin sister), Sanford; Melissa (Michael) Ward, Atlanta, GA; nieces, Taylin Johnson, Palatka; Ariel Johnson, Atlanta, GA; special friend; Anthony Laso, Sanford; as well as, Madison, Jennifer and Tony Cannon, all of Umatilla; Whitney Anderson, Glenn Morrow, both of Atlanta, GA; Leikeli47 Banji Crew; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

In compliance with CDC Coronavirus guidelines, the family scheduled a socially-distanced public visitation from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 15 and a limited Homegoing Celebration at 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 16, at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity with a private interment at Oak Hill West Cemetery.  Rev. Karl N. Flagg, pastor of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, eulogist; Rev. Anthony Q. Robinson, Pastor of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Palatka, officiating.
