Obituary

Rev. Patricia Bryant Tomblin, 64, Altamonte Springs, transitioned from this earthly life to life eternal at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, FL surrounded by her husband, children and siblings. She was born May 14, 1945 (the oldest of five children) to Harold and Ethel Bryant in East Palatka. She was a graduate of Central Academy Class of 1962. She earned an A.A. degree from Collier-Blocker Junior College, Palatka; B.S. degree with a major in Biology from Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach; and pursued further studies at the University of Wisconsin, Florida State University and the University of Central Florida. On May 10, 2003, she earned the Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Psychology of Religion and Pastoral Care and Counseling from the Morehouse School of Religion, the Baptist Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

At an early age, Pat accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church & Morning Star Baptist Church, East Palatka. She was licensed as a Minister in February, 2001 and was ordained December 8, 2002. She served as Minister of Christian Education at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. In February, 2003 she united with New Life Presbyterian Church in Atlanta and in 2005, Patricia transferred her membership to Washington Shores Presbyterian Church, Orlando, Florida where she was instrumental in reviving the weekly Bible Study Group. Patricia spent twenty years as a science teacher in Florida public schools, during which time she served as team leader in team teaching situations and science department chairperson. She touched the hearts of countless students in the Putnam, Clay, and Seminole School Districts during her tenure. She was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and a former member of Evergreen Temple # 321 of the I. B. P.O.E.W., Sanford. Patricia, a true warrior for the Lord, was proof that God still works miracles, having won three different bouts with cancer since 1998, and that He will call you home only when He is ready. Patricias beloved mother, Ethel Hines Bryant, father, Harold D. Bryant, Sr., maternal grandparents, Acy Sr., & Rendie P. Hines; paternal grandparents, Horace and Lovie Bryant; and nephew, Kurt A. Bryant, preceded her in eternal rest.

To cherish her memories: Devoted Husband of 37 years: Dr. Sammie Tomblin, Altamonte Springs; Children: Nicole (Nicholas) Sylvas, Kissimmee; LaTisha Tomblin, Altamonte Springs; Siblings: Vivian L. Bryant, St. Petersburg; Harold D. Bryant Jr., Miami; Dr. Kenneth Rawn (Dr. Nancy) Bryant, St. Petersburg; Vanessa (Dr. Richard) Campbell, Miami; Torrence Bryant, Altamonte Springs; Dr. Damon Bryant, Arlington, TX; Grandchildren: Jasmyn and Sydney Sylvas, Kissimmee; Stepmother: Louise Bryant, Orange Mills; five Stepbrothers and stepsisters; a host of nieces & nephews; great nieces & nephews; uncles: Edward (Lillian) Hines, Palatka; Acy Hines, East Palatka; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, June 26, from 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, FL., Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Rev. Dr. James. C. Kelly, pastor of Washington Shores Presbyterian Church, Officiating. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens. The cortege will assemble at the Edward Hines residence, 240 Crystal Cove Drive, Palatka on Saturday at 10:15 a.m.
