Palmer Gibbs was born on September 14, 1936 to Walter Gibbs, Sr. and Annie Mae Jones in Folkston, Georgia.  He grew up partially in Folkston and later in Palatka, Florida along with several brothers and sisters.  Palmer's employment included logging and pulpwood. His children attribute their strong work ethic to his consistent example. In his spare time,  he enjoyed fishing, dancing, fixing things and cutting yards.  He was known to have a "green thumb" that made many plants thrive and beautify indoor and outdoor settings.

In addition to his parents, Palmer was preceded in eternal rest by his wife, Lena Mae (Perry) Gibbs; daughter, Altamese McDuffy; son-in-law, William Middlebrooks.

Palmer entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Radiant Nursing and Rehabilitation of Palatka.

Precious memories of Palmer remain with his daughters and sons, Margie Middlebrooks,  Victoria Gibbs, Brenda Smith, Herbert (Nancy) Tobler, Sylvester Tobler; grandchildren, Stephanie (James)  Parker, Shikeeta Doles, Dwight Morton, Trevarous Morton; Ja'bir Gibbs, Ja'Neshia & (Larry) Mallory, Keith Gibbs, Unique (Demare) Purifoy, Jeremiah Winters, Ja'La Winters, Bryan Jenkins, Bernice Pollard;  8 great grandchildren; sister, Ola Mae Wilbur and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
