Ollie Mae Brooks, 81, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Palatka Health Care Center following an extended illness. She was born on Monday, April 30, 1928 in Monticello, Florida to Charlie & Susie Anna (Brookins) Murphy. Ollie was united in marriage to Alonza Brooks. She was a retired housekeeper, formerly employed by Ramada Inn, St. Augustine. She has resided in Palatka for the past 40 years moving from Green Cove Springs.
She was a member of New Life Temple Fellowship, Green Cove Springs, where she served faithfully on the Mothers Board. Ollie had an immeasurable love for children and a passion for fishing.
Ollie is preceded in eternal rest by her husband; parents; son, Alvin Brooks; sister, Christine Fuqua; brothers, Allen Brookins, Charles Murphy, Albert Murphy, James Murphy, and J.B. Murphy.
To cherish her memories: sons and daughters, Annie Mae (Overseer Ronald) Bellamy, Sr., Ollie Brooks, Tommy L. (Inez) Brooks, Nadine Brooks, Raymond Brooks, Clarence (Lakeshia) Brooks, Lilly (Derry) Pedraza, and Linda Brooks, all of Palatka; Alphonso (Josephine) Brooks, Pomona Park; Willie James (Gloria) Brooks, Lake City; Lucille Peterson, Ethel (Truman) Williams, and Sabrina Cannimore, all of Jacksonville; sisters Leola Youman, Jacksonville; Sylvia S. Hampton, Atlantic City, NJ., and Jessie L. Russell, Clermont; brother, James Murphy, Leachville, AK; 59 grandchildren, 112 great-grandchildren, one great great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, June 26, from 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Church of God by Faith, 1511 Washington Street, Palatka Elder Phillip Thomas, Pastor. Bishop Mark A. Jones, Presiding Prelate, New Life Temple Fellowship of Churches International, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.The cortege will assemble 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Nadine Brooks residence, 101 Spruce Lane, Palatka.
