Odell "Bluesman" Maxwell, 69, of Orlando, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, July 5, 2018 in Orlando. A native of Perry, FL., he was the son of Gus and Catherine (Smith) Maxwell, born on Saturday, April 16, 1949. He was educated in the Gadsden County (Quincy), FL School District. Odell was a proficient Cement Finisher for several contractors in the Central Florida (Sanford/Orlando) area. He was an entrepreneur and vendor marketing his goods in numerous flea markets. He was a composer, guitarist and recording artist specializing in the Blues and known as "King of the Florida Blues." His main hits included, "Florida Boy," "Flea Market Blues," and "Gus' Candy Shop" (dedicated to the memory of his father). Odell was a very kind, courteous gentleman who was very fond of antiques.
In addition to his parents, Odell was preceded in eternal rest by his sisters, Cora Mae Otto, Essie Mae Maxwell Joseph; brothers, Gus Maxwell, Jr., Floyd Maxwell and Johnnie Lee Maxwell (transitioned on June 19, 2018).
He leaves to cherish his memories: sisters, Willie Mae Roberts, Shirley Allen, Ammie Maxwell, Katrenda (James) Oxendine, Palatka; Lestine Maxwell, Deland; Janice (Alex) Chance, Jacksonville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, July 13, and Celebration of Odell's Life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, July 14, at "Flagg Chapel of Serenity." Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Senior Pastor of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
