Obituary

Nolan Kelly, Jr., 77, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach. A native of East Palatka, he was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. The son of Nolan Kelly Sr., and Mable Hampton Kelly, he was was born on Wednesday, December 19, 1934. He was a graduate of Central Academy High School, class of 1954. He subsequently enlisted and honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1959 - 1963. Nolan was previously employed along with his brother Richard at the Palatka Ice Plant. He was a retired machine operator from Georgia Pacific's tissue converting department (former Hudson Pulp & Paper Mill) following 29 years of employment. He was united in marriage for 48 years to his soul mate and classmate, Lila M. Belton Kelly (who preceded him in eternal rest on June 6, 2010.) Brother Kelly was a life-long and faithful member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church of East Palatka, Reverend Randolph Carter, pastor, serving in the Men's Choir Ministry and numerous other ministries. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, and watching television, especially enjoying Judge Judy, Gunsmoke, and Two and a Half Men. He was an avid Rays and Jaguars fan, but most importantly enjoyed family fellowship. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in eternal rest by his oldest brother, Reverend Richard Kelly. Those who will cherish his precious memories: devoted son, Nolan Kelly III (fiancée Catherine), Daytona Beach; brother, Walter (Robin) Kelly, Freehold, NJ; cousin, Lutisha Kelly, Green Cove Springs; nephews, Ronald Kelly (Lillie), East Palatka; Earl Kelly, NJ; niece, Ursella Kelly, MD; brothers-in-law, Hastings Belton, Palatka; Jimmie Lee Belton, Robert Belton (Gussie), both of Jacksonville; Clarence Belton (Ruby), Oakland, CA; Sam Belton (Grace), Philadelphia, PA; sisters-in-law, Bernice Kelly, Hazel Ettison, both of Palatka; Eleanor (Cornell) Young, Sicklerville, NJ; special friend, Deborah Blackshear (Ron), Interlachen and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5 - 8 p.m., on Monday, July 2nd at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3rd, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, pastor. Rev. James McGriff, pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Palatka, is the Eulogist. Interment with military honors will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
