Obituary

Nellie Mae Scott, 88, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Solaris Healthcare, Palatka. A native of Quitman, GA., she was the daughter of William and Ruby (Shannon) Scott, born on Tuesday, November 24, 1931.  During her early years, her family moved to Palatka and was members of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.  Nellie was a 1948 graduate of Central Academy High School, Palatka.  In the early 1950s, she relocated to Panama City, where she enrolled into the LPN program at Gulf Coast College.  While residing in Panama City, she was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church.  She was a former activities director, but she spent much of her nursing career at Bay Memorial Hospital (Bay Medical Center) where she served as director of the medical center's mental health unit until retirement.  In 1986, she returned to Palatka and formerly resided at Carriage Gates and Holly Ridge.  She continued to serve faithfully at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, serving in numerous ministries, especially with the senior's ministry.  She really loved to study God's word and led many home-based bible study classes.  Her favorite pastime was crocheting and spending time with family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her sisters , Willie Mae Brown and Ruby Russell; brother , Isaiah Scott; niece , Ella Mae Grant.

She is survived by her devoted sister, Evelyn (Eddie) Hills, East Palatka; "like a son," Willie James Stephen; and numerous devoted nieces and nephews that she truly loved as her own, and a host of other loving relatives, neighbors and friends.

In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines including required masks with social distancing, a visitation of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 23 at Mt. Tabor and a Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 24 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, pastor is the eulogist. Friends are invited to join the family virtually via Facebook live: Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
