Nathan Nick Stewart, 60, of Interlachen, entered the sunset of life on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Shands at the University of Florida, Gainesville following an extended illness. He was a native of MacClenny and relocated to Putman County in the early 70s. Nathan was educated in the Baker County School District and Class president of J. Franklyn Keller High School, class of 1968. After high school, he attended Edward Waters College to pursue a career in the Education field. Nathan had various positions as a Correctional Officer, Nurses Aide, Education with the State of FL and a community activist. In his early childhood and early teens, Nathan was a member of St. James Memorial Baptist Church, Allen Chapel A.M.E Zion Church, both of MacClenny. Nathan was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E Church in Hastings. He was a musician that played for several churches in the Putnam & St. Johns County area.
His parents, Ben & Evelyn (Edwards) Stewart, Brothers, Robert, Jr. & Edward Earl Stewart and Sister, Lillie Mae McQueen preceded him in eternal rest.
To cherish his memories, twin brother, Nathaniel Stewart, Columbus, GA; devoted sister, Gloria Stewart (David) Bryant, Fayetteville, NC; Stepmother, Daisy B. Stewart, Columbus, GA; devoted sisters-in-law, Ruby Stewart, MacClenny; Sisters-in-law, Patricia W. Stewart, Barnesville, GA; Mildred Stewart, Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and caring friends.
Visitation of family & friends will be Friday, July 17th from 5-8pm at the Chapel of Serenity, 2400 Madison St., Palatka. Saturdays visitation will be from 8-10 a.m. at Emmanuel Church of God In Christ, 450 South 8th St., MacClenny, Elder Joe Ruise, Pastor. Homegoing Celebration will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Lorenzo Laws, pastor of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Hastings is the eulogist. Interment will be in the Mt. Herman Cemetery, MacClenny. The cortege will assemble at the Chestnuts residence, 409 Lowder St, MacClenny.
