Obituary

Naomi Arretta Salome Hopkins-Hughes, 68, of Conyers, GA., entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Rockdale Health Care Center, Conyers, GA. A native of Palatka, she was the daughter of Jim H. Hopkins, Sr. and Lucille Bartley Hopkins, born on Thursday, May 9, 1947. From the early age of 7, she was a member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church. Naomi was a 1964 honor graduate of Central Academy High School and subsequently earned an Associate's Degree in Business Management at the former St. Johns River Junior College, Palatka. She continued her educational pursuit at Georgia State University, Atlanta where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Management and further earned a Master's Degree in Church Planting at the Atlanta School of Biblical Studies. She was a dedicated educator, serving in numerous school districts especially Putnam County, Atlanta Public and the Rockdale systems and was a passionate ESE instructor. Additionally, she was a Business Analyst for Bellsouth for 15 years. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Dale Hughes on October 7, 2000. She was a former member of Greater Traveler's Rest Baptist Church, Decatur, GA., serving in the Prison Ministry and became the Director of the Half-way House for Men. Naomi faithfully served at the Presbyterian Church of Christ, Lawrenceville, GA and was active on the Council of Elders and Woman of Faith ministries. She enjoyed volunteering in the community, reading, golfing, and traveling. Naomi found special pleasure in photography, and "love-n-laughter." Naomi was preceded in eternal rest by her parents. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband of nearly 15 years, Dale Hughes, Conyers, GA; children, Christopher L. Hutcherson, Atlanta, GA; Tracei A. S. Hutcherson, East Palatka; Dale Hughes, Jr. Conyers, GA; brother, Jim H. Hopkins, Jr., Tampa; grandchildren, Naria S. Williams, New York, NY, Steven Hughes, Dale Hughes, III, both of Atlanta, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, August 14, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 15 at Mount Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at 1:15 p.m. at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity".
