Obituary

Naomi Janette Granny White Michael, 78, Palatka, former longtime San Mateo resident, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Haven Hospice of the Lakes Roberts Care Center. She was born Sunday, April 5, 1931 as a twin daughter of Elder King David White, Sr., and Albertha Riley White in Jacksonville FL. She attended the Edward Waters Preparatory School in Jacksonville and was a 1949 graduate of the Hungerford High School in Eatonville, Florida. She earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education at Bethune Cookman College, class of 56, Daytona Beach, Florida. Naomi was united in holy matrimony to Marshall T. Michael until his demise in 1980. In 1987, she retired as an Elementary Teacher at James A. Long Elementary School following over 30 years of meritorious service in Putnam & Alachua Counties. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, granny, sister-in-Christ, and friend to many. She enjoyed singing hymns, playing the piano and organ over the years. Her hobbies also included fishing, arts & crafts, and word Search. She was a former member and musician at New Bethel A.M.E. Church, San Mateo. She has been a faithful member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church since 1996 and served as a member of the Seniors ministry. In addition to her parents, Naomi was preceded in eternal rest by her Husband, Marshall T. Michael; twin sister, Ruth White Elmore; brother, King David White Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Daughters, Patricia A. Cave, Palatka; Carolyn (Roosevelt) Miller, Daytona Beach; Marcia Allen, Palm Coast; Siblings, Ruby (Thomas) McCullough, Charlotte, NC; Marion Desota, Signal Hill, CA; Joan Johnson, Daytona Beach; James B. White, Orlando; Sisters-in-law, Theodosia White, Washington, DC; Louise Johnson and Wilhelmina Felder both of San Mateo; Adopted Brothers, Freddie DeSota, Pensacola; Abram (Agnes) Alexander, Palatka and Thomas Johnson, Ormond Beach; Caregivers, Monica Heinecker, Palatka; Candice Smith, Hastings; and Channon Brown, Satsuma; Extended Family, Willie Mae Thomas and Family, Palatka; Stella (Cecil) Nelson and Family, San Mateo and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7:30 p.m. Friday January 22 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church. Homegoing Celebration will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 23 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave Palatka. Rev Karl N. Flagg, Pastor is the Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill East Cemetery
