Myrtle Humphrey, 90, of Newark, NJ, peacefully entered the sunset of life surrounded by her family on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at her residence. A native of Hastings, FL., Myrtle was a twin daughter born on Saturday, September 8, 1923 to Ulysess & Lily (Parrish) Humphrey. At the age of 12, Myrtle accepted Christ as her Saviour and joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the Hastings Vocational School. In 1945, she relocated to Newark, NJ. Since 1967, Myrtle has been a faithful and loyal member of New Hope Baptist Church, Newark, NJ., presently under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Joe A. Carter. She faithfully served the Lord and was a loyal Church Mother and Missionary. She was a dedicated Home Health Aide, retiring in 2004 from Chrill Health Care. In addition to her beloved parents, Myrtle was preceded in eternal rest by her siblings, Ulysess Humphrey, Jr., Amos Humphrey, Juanita Smith, and Mattie Johnson; niece, Cynthia Humphrey-Fitz; and nephews, Johnny Hatten and Amos Jerome Humphrey. Those who cherish her memories: twin-sister, Marie Humphrey-Adams, Palatka; son, George (Cassaundra) Taylor, St. Petersburg; daughter, Cecelia Pasha, Newark, NJ; 4 grandchildren, Terry (Cheryl) Taylor, Jacksonville, Tony Bradley, Gavin (Tanya) Taylor, and Amir Pasha, Newark, NJ; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends: 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Reverend James Sloan, pastor of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, East Palatka, is the eulogist. Interment will be in the family's plot in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
