Obituary

Mother Virginia Epps Harris, 83, of Palatka, heard the welcoming voice of Jesus calling her home on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Kindred Hospital-North Florida, Green Cove Springs, FL. A native of Apopka, FL, she was born on Wednesday, January 8, 1930 to George Sr., and Willie Mae (Ward) Epps and was educated in the Orange County public school System. She had resided in Palatka for the past 56 years and was a pressing technician at the former Gem City Cleaners, subsequently retiring from the tissue converting department at Hudson Pulp & Paper Mill (now Georgia-Pacific) after 20 years of employment. She was a former longtime member and church mother at Zion Temple Church of God In Christ and later united and served as church mother at Holy Word Revival Center. "Mother Harris" really loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church, shopping and decorating. She was united in holy matrimony to Frank J. Holcy, Jr., and subsequently to William Henry Harris, Sr., both of whom preceded her in eternal rest. She was also preceded by her parents; sons, Johnny, Arthur, and Tommy Holcy; daughter, Doris Holcy Young; brothers, Enoch, Emmitt, George, Jr., Ellis, and Nathaniel Epps; sister, Sally Epps Pennycooke. She was the treasured mother of Pastor Frankie Davis (Ronald) Mincey, Apostle Mary L. Thomas, William H. Harris, Jr., Jimmy L. Harris, Sr., and Erica Harris, all of Palatka, Pastor Dorothy J. (Reginald, Sr.,) Moody, Interlachen; Jerlene (Vincent) Perry, Satsuma; Gale Harris (Kenneth) Black, Pomona Park; Henrietta Harris Johnson, Orlando; loving sister of Prophetess Lula Mae Peoples, Palatka; and was cherished by 51 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren and countless other caring relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 24 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave., Rev. Karl N. Flagg, pastor. Pastor Vivian Johnson, Holy Word Revival Center, is the eulogist. The cortege will assemble 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the Harris Family residence, 125 East Towles Ave., Palatka. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
