In Loving Memory of Milton M. Scott III “Squirt”

March 3, 1956- August 9, 2026

Milton M. Scott III, affectionately known by family and friends as “Squirt,” was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 3, 1956, to the late Milton M. Scott II and Ora Lee Scott.

At a young age, Milton confessed his belief in Christ. Under the leadership of Pastor John McGruder, he was baptized and became a faithful member of Zion Hill West Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago. Throughout his years of service, he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, sang in the choir, and founded the nonprofit, Hands of Zion, under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Jeffery L. Garth Jr. and current Pastor Richard T. Patterson Jr. His faith was not simply something he professed, it was something he lived. He loved sharing the Word of God, encouraging others, and offering the wisdom he gained throughout his life.

Milton was a man with many talents and interests. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. As he grew older, his passions expanded to include traveling, singing, composing music, golfing, and, most importantly, spending quality time with his family and friends. He had a way of turning ordinary moments into memories and never missed an opportunity to share a story, a song, a life lesson, or a few words of encouragement. Those who knew him will remember not only what he said, but the way he made them feel: seen, loved, and welcomed.

Milton graduated from Creiger Vocational High School in 1974 and continued his education at Knoxville College in Tennessee, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1978. His love for music led him to further his education at Wilbur Wright College in Chicago, where he earned two associate degrees in Music. Armed with his degrees and passion for music, he created two gospel singing groups: Greater Sacrifice and Sounds Like Church.

On September 1, 1984, Milton married his soulmate Nadine Smith Scott. Together they shared 5 kids. They built a life and a family filled with love, laughter, challenges, triumphs, and countless memories. Their journey together is a testament to commitment, partnership, and enduring love.

A man of many talents and business aspirations, Milton was never afraid of hard work. He began his professional career as an entrepreneur and successful insurance salesman before answering another calling for public service. He was a substitute teacher with Chicago Public School, Chairman of the Abla Reunion Committee and Founder of the Inner City Sports - Little League. He later joined the Chicago Police Department and was sworn into the U.S. Marshals Task Force. He also served as the Lead Officer of Security at Malcolm X College. After 20 plus years of dedicated service, Milton retired in 2015. Following his retirement, he moved to Palm Coast, Florida, where he embraced a new chapter of life. He enjoyed the warmer weather, the slower pace, and the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Milton’s greatest legacy, however, was not found in his career, accomplishments, or titles. It was found in the people he loved and the lives he touched. He gave pieces of himself to so many, and his presence will continue to live on through the lessons he taught, the music he created, the stories he shared, and the memories he leaves behind.

Funeral services will be held in Chicago.  A memorial service will be held in Palm Coast at a later date.
