Millard "Lil' Gus" "Snicker" Davis, Jr., 76, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at his residence. The son of Millard Davis, Sr. and Elsie Mae Francena (Brady) Davis, he was born on Monday, April 29, 1940 in Welaka. He was a 1958 graduate of Central Academy High School and continued his educational pursuit at Florida A&M University. He was subsequently drafted into the U. S. Army and earned an honorable discharge. His employment career included the former Hudson Pulp and Paper Mill, Central States Diversified, and BellSouth Telecommunications (retiring in June, 1994.) Millard was an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church who really loved participating in church activities. He was a loving family man, dedicated father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family. "Snicker" was dearly loved by all who knew him and his hobbies included cooking and reading. He was an avid sports fan and the Miami Dolphins was his favorite NFL team.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his son, Curtis Dean Davis Holcy; maternal grandparents, Richard Brady and Katie Flynn Brady Huggins; paternal grandparents, Well and Dottie Davis; sister, Doris Jean Manuel; aunt, Catherine "Pop" Brady.
He leaves to cherish his memories: sons, Willie Leon Wright, Sr., Palatka; Carl Holcy, Hopkins, SC; daughter, Beverly Holcy Robinson, Ocala; former wife and special friend, Frankie Davis Mincey, Palatka; special daughter, Angela (Clarence) Williams Proctor, Palatka; "like a son" (grandson), Bradley Jaydin Holcy, Palatka; brother, Reverend Charles R. (Agnes) Davis, Long Island, NY; sister, Marilyn Hagans, Welaka; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, March 31 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 700 Main Street, Palatka. Homegoing Celebration with military honors will be 1 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Rev. James McGriff, Pastor. Rev. Reginald T. Bynum, Pastor, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
