August 3, 1932 – August 15, 2022
Mildred Viola Lewis, 90, of East Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Palatka. The daughter of Edward Hill and Hattie Hill McLeod, she was born on Wednesday, August 3, 1932 in Foley, FL. She was educated in the Taylor and Putnam County School Districts. Mildred loved music, singing, children, and flowers. At an early age, Mildred accepted Christ into her life. She became a member of First Baptist Church of Foley, where she was baptized. Then, she moved to Palatka and joined Calvary Baptist Church. In her teen years, she met Asrial Lewis and they were united in marriage June 3, 1949. To this marital union, eleven children were born. Mildred and Asrial became members of Morning Star Baptist Church, East Palatka where they were ordained together as deaconess and deacon, respectively. Mildred served in the choir ministry since being baptized.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by her brother, Horace McLeod; granddaughter, Wilondria Fuqua Grant.
To cherish her memories: sons and daughters, Willie George (Alphia) Mitchell, Barbara (Alvin) Hall, Tanga Lewis, Marvin (Dorothy) Lewis, Edward Lewis, Linda Johnson, Asrial (Keasha) Lewis, Hattie (Robert) Johnson, Ethel Lewis; brother, Harold (Vern) McLeod; 29 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren, and a host of great- great grandchildren, other relatives and friends including, Ogreta Daniels.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, August 19, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 20 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 100 5th Street, East Palatka. Her son, Minister Asrial Lewis, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka.
