Michael "Blow Fly" Evans, Sr., 67, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital, Palatka. The son of Lonnie Evans, Jr. and Norma Louise Evans, he was born on July 29, 1956 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was a 1974 graduate of Palatka Central High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He subsequently became a builder, working contracted construction jobs as a brick mason and a concrete finisher. He was a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, searching the online web, and participating in chess and pool tournaments. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his grandparents, Lonnie, Sr. and Christina Evans; sister, Diane Simpkins Burton; mother-in-law, Emma Jones; father-in-law: Charles Vickers; sister-in-law, Georgia Mae Vickers.
He leaves to cherish his memories: beloved wife, Dawn Michelle Vickers Evans; sons and daughter, Michael Evans, Jr., Darius Evans, Makayla Evans, and Darren Evans; sisters, Valery Evans Leonard, Brenda Evans (Lonnie) Oxendine, Dale Evans, Annette Evans, Barbara Evans and Trina Bell; brothers, Lonnie (Camille) Evans IIl, Robert (Cathy) Evans Sr, Brian Evans, Lancelot (Carol) Evans and Travis (Lynette) Calhoun; stepmother, Eunice Evans; brother-in-law: Kenny Vickers; sisters-in-law, Ruby Vickers Thomas, Cathy Vickers Jones; special nephew, Jermaine Evans; special niece, Ashley Oliver; special friend, Rod Thornton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.
Public Visitation: 10-11 a.m., with a Celebration of Life commencing at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity. Rev. Theodore McRae, Pastor, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Federal Point, is the eulogist. Interment: Jacksonville National Cemetery.
