IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Anthony
Hughes
January 11, 1956 – July 25, 2011
Michael Anthony Hughes (McCoy) was born on Wednesday, January 11, 1956 in Jacksonville, Florida. During his early childhood years he resided in Palatka, Florida and attended the public schools of Putnam County. Subsequently, the family relocated to Jacksonville and he attended Duval County Schools, graduating from Jean Ribault High School, class of 1973. Michael pursued his post-secondary degrees from Florida State University, Tallahassee and Edward Waters College, Jacksonville, where he earned his Bachelors degree in Criminology. While at FSU, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and unrelentingly supported his love for the purple and gold. From his youth, he was raised with a strong spiritual foundation and accepted Jesus as Lord of his life at St. Matthew Baptist Church and later re-dedicated himself to discipleship at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church. Michael was a shining star to his family and friends, he was known as Mr. Fix-it. If it needed to be painted or fixed, he was always there to do the work. No sacrifice was too great for his family. All that he worked for and gave was done freely and without complaint. He was formerly employed by the Urban League as a Job Placement Specialist. Mike was most proud of his children; they were the apple of his eye. He also had a unique and special bond with his beloved mother, whom he adored. All could see the love in his eyes whenever he talked about her. He will forever remain special to all those he touched.
Michael is preceded in eternal rest by: Brothers, Samuel R. McCoy, Jr., & Freddie Eason; Sister, Christine Eason; grandparents, Cleota Hughes (Louis, Sr.,)Cain, Jim H. (Lizzie)Hopkins, Sr., Frank (Irene) McCoy, Sr.
