Michael Anthony Charles Canty Sr., 55, of Palatka, entered Heaven's pearly gates on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine. Michael, the son of Roosevelt Canty Sr. and Shirley Jean Shephard Canty, was a native of Palatka, born on September 10, 1957. He was a graduate of Palatka Central High School, class of 1976. He was a faithful member of New Mt. Tamo Missionary Baptist Church, Pomona Park, where he faithfully served on the Feeding Ministry and the Visitation Ministry under the leadership of Rev. Theodore McRae. He was formerly employed as a Master Chef at Circus World in Haines City, FL. Mike was passionate about his culinary gift and was presently employed by North Florida Sod & Grass Company. In addition to his father Roosevelt Canty, Sr., "Mike" was preceded in eternal rest by his dad, James Hendrith; sons, Michael & Moses Canty; Niece, Chasity Johnson; Nephews, Eric Canty Jr. and Wayne Keeley. He leaves to cherish his many memories: devoted mother, Shirley Hendrith, Palatka;Children, Kautana Council, Atlanta, GA., Anthony (Glenda) Canty, Fort Eustis, VA., Aisha Simmons, Jacksonville; Michael (Alyssa) Canty, Orlando; Ronji (Jennifer)West and Vatesha (Ralph) Dallas, both of East Palatka; Michelle Hendrith and Jazmine Canty, both of Palatka; Ashley Pride, Winter Haven; Sisters, Beverly Ann Johnson, Kimberly (Harrison) Edwards, Valerie (Eugene III) Blye, and Shirlene Hendrith, Jeannie (Winston) Green, all of Palatka, Twila (Clayton) Boyd, Winter Haven; Raggie Canty, Jacksonville; Brothers, Roosevelt Canty, Jr., Eric (Tonjia) Canty, Keith Hendrith, Shanez Hendrith, and Samuel Hendrith, all of Palatka; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; devoted friend, Samantha McCloud of Palatka; 20 grandchildren; and numerous cousins and sorrowing friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Michael's pastor, Reverend Theodore McRae, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery. The cortege will assemble on Saturday at 12:20 p.m., at 904 North 10th Street, Palatka.
