Melvin "Mel" Couzart, the son of Guy and Onie Lee (Exum) Couzart, he was born on Tuesday, March 24, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri. Mel served at Church of God by Faith, Gainesville, under the leadership of Dr. Erta C. Livingston, Jr. He enlisted into the US Army for 3 years and the US Army Reserves for 8 years. He was employed by National Promotions as Director for R&B; with Motown (Barry Gordy) and SAR Records (Sam Cooke), and promoter for Diana Ross. Mel enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, and cooking for his Queen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his daughter, Len Houston; stepson, Albert Watts, Jr.
Melvin "Mel" Couzart entered the sunset of life on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026 at Haven Hospice E T York Care Center, Gainesville.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife, Naomi Benjamin Couzart; daughters and sons, Waleeta Melvina Couzart, Brenda Patricia Couzart, Renell Orlando Couzart, Clarence (Pastor Shirley) Watts, Carl (Lisa) Watts; a host of grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Alton (Lillie Ruth) Benjamin, Clarence (Nadell) Benjamin, Sr., Robert Benjamin; sisters-in-law, Alfredia Benjamin, Ruth Benjamin, Lorraine “Punch” Baldwin; godchildren, Scott and Dee Dee Branscum; and a host of other relatives and friends.
