Obituary

Mary Alice Green Sims "Aunt Sally" Kirkland, 92, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Florida Hospital-Stuart F. Meyer Hospice Care Center, Palm Coast, FL, following an extended illness. A native of Day, (Lafayette County), FL, she was born on Wednesday, October 20, 1920 to John, Sr. & Annie Eliza (McCallister) Green. She was educated in Suwanee County, graduating from Douglas High School in Live Oak. She subsequently attended Florida Normal and Industrial Institute in St. Augustine (now known as Florida Memorial University, Miami.) She was employed as a nurse at the former Alachua General Hospital and Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville and was also retired as a Park Ranger at the Ravine Gardens State Park. She was a longtime member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Palatka and also united with Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, Hastings. In addition to her parents, Mary Alice was preceded in eternal rest by her husbands, Mose Sims and Johnny "Kirk" Kirkland, Jr.; daughter, Earlene Levene Sims Fuce; son, Benjamin Franklin Sims, Sr., sister, Pearl Green Fuce Vickers, Mary Young; brothers, John R. Jr., Edward A., David W., Albert, Allen and Benjamin F. Green. Those who will forever cherish her memories: loving & caring son, James Charles Fuce, II (special friend, Letitia "Peaches" Corley); Evangelist Patricia Milton, Palatka; siblings, Ruth G. Wright and Lillian G. Wright, both of Jacksonville; Pastor Annie D. (Bishop Elijah T.) Jackson, Palatka; Willie A. Green and Wesley Green, both of Tampa; sister-in-law, Evelyn S. Green, Palatka; 13 grandchildren, Herman Milton, Sabrina Milton, Rev. Anthony Milton, Hope Merritt, Benjamin Franklin Sims, Jr., Eric Sims, Sr., Erica Sims, Jarvis L. Bryson, James C. Fuce, III, James C. Fuce IV, James C. Fuce, V, Jasmine C. Fuce, Jtyeria C. Fuce; 34 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives; and dear friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 322 North 10th Street, Palatka, Reverend Frederick T. Demps, Pastor, is the eulogist. Reverend Rick Torrence, Pastor of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, Hasting, will be presiding.
