Dr. Mary Beatrice Rickerson Elliott, 69, of St. Augustine, entered the sunset of life on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Community Hospice Bailey Care Center, St. Augustine. A native of Fountain, NC, she was the daughter of Willie Richardson, Sr. and Lucille Stewart Floyd, born on Saturday, December 25, 1948. During early childhood, her family relocated to St. Augustine and she became a member of the family's church, North City Baptist Church, St Augustine. She was educated in the St. Johns County School District and obtained her secondary education at Richard J. Murray High School. In pursuit of her calling, she earned an Associate's degree, Tallahassee Community College; Bachelor's degree (Mathematics), Florida A&M University; Master's degree, Western Michigan University; and subsequently pursued a Doctorate degree in Theology. Mary was a secondary math teacher, employed by the St. Johns County School District at Ketterlinus Middle School (1986-88) and the Kalamazoo MI Public School District (1989-2005). Upon retirement in 2005 she relocated to Jacksonville and in 2013, she returned to St. Augustine. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in eternal rest by her grandson, Brandon Walden.
She leaves to cherish her memories: sons and daughters, Latrina Atkins, Tallahassee; Charles Atkins, Jr., St Augustine; Sheldon (Gerica) Atkins, Sr., Jacksonville; Monica Atkins Landwer, Kalamazoo, MI; brothers, Willie Rickerson, Jr., Jessie Lee (Margaret) Rickerson, Sr., both of St. Augustine; Carl Richardson, Chesapeake, VA; sisters, Gloria Rickerson, St. Augustine; Sylvia Rickerson Boone, Jacksonville, Molina Rickerson, Baltimore, MD; Martel Richardson, York, PA; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 13 and Homegoing Celebration will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 14 at New Mt. Moriah Christian Ministry, 650 Christopher St., St. Augustine, FL, Rev. Ronald L. Stafford, pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, St. Augustine.
