Mary Magdalene Maggie Colay, 75, of Brentwood, NY (formerly of Palatka) entered the sunset of life on Thursday, March 10, 2011at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. The daughter of Arthur and Eliza (Bethune) Hines, she was born on Sunday, August 4, 1935, in St. Augustine. Mary was a longtime resident of Palatka and was educated in the Putnam County School District (Central Academy High School). She was united in marriage to Henry Edward Colay for over 52 years (who preceded her in eternal rest on February 15, 2011). They were the proud parents of eleven children. Mary was a devoted homemaker, a caring mother and a loving grandmother.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary is preceded in eternal rest by her daughter, Darlene Ann Colay; son, Mack Edward Colay; grandsons, Daniel and Ezekiel Colay; 3 sisters, Helen Hatten, Cora Johnson, Shirley Jean (Savannah) Hines-Jones; 4 brothers, Willie Hines, Alfred Hines Sr., Leroy Johnson, and Sam White.
To cherish her memories: 8 devoted daughters; Dorothy (William, Sr.) Ealey, Elizabeth (Joe) Miles of Long Island, NY, Mildred (Dennis) McMillan, Shirley Colay, Margie (Ronald) Fells, and Joyce Ann Colay, all of Palatka; Mary Jane Colay of St. Augustine; Henrietta Holmes of Allentown, PA; 1 beloved son; Lynwood Kevin Colay of Palatka; 39 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday March 18 at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at First Born Church of the Living God, 1708 Madison Street, Palatka, Bishop W.L. Smith, pastor, presiding. Elder Arthur Lee Coley is the eulogist.
Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka.
