Mother Martha Elizabeth Bragg Jefferson Edwards, 89, native and lifelong resident of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, July 7th, 2008 at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, Gainesville. She was the daughter of General Sheldon & Ella Gertrude (Strickland) Bragg, born Saturday, May 10, 1919. She was employed at the former Glendale Hospital, William Penn Motel and worked many years at Nelsons Jewelers as well as for the Nelson family. Mother Edwards served the Lord with great joy for over 60 years. She was a loyal and faithful member of Zion Temple Church of God in Christ where throughout the years she served in multiple ministries, including Assistant Church Mother, Bible Band Teacher, Home Foreign Mission Board, church secretary, regular devotional & praise leader for Sunday worship services, and was very active with the (YPWW) Young People Willing Workers. She was preceded in eternal rest by her parents; Husbands, Deacon Horace V. Jefferson, Sr., and Deacon Junior Edwards; Daughter, Geraldine Jefferson Knowles, and Sister, Rosa Lee Jordan. To Cherish Her Memories, Sons, Horace V. Jefferson, Jr., Palatka; Elijah (Lucretia) Lowery, Ormond Beach; Daughter, Wisteria Edwards Striglers, Jacksonville; Sister, Ella Lesene, Palatka; Brother, Elijah (Dorothy) Bragg, Junction City, KS; 12 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, numerous godchildren and caring friends. Visitation of family & friends will be Saturday, July 12th from 5-8 p.m. at Zion Temple Church of God in Christ, 1601 Bronson St., Palatka, Elder Antonio V. Ruth, Pastor. Homegoing services will be Sunday, July 13th 2008, 2 p.m. at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, Elder Antonio Ruth is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
