IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark O.
Odle, Sr.
August 1, 1955 – September 30, 2024
Mark Oswald Odle, Sr., 69, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life on Monday, September 30, 2024 at his residence.
Mark was born on August 1, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Oswald Pelham Odle and Sheila Nedd Odle. He was a gregarious person who always knew the right thing to say in order to lighten the mood. Mark attended St. Matthew's Elementary School in Brooklyn, New York. His family relocated to Queens, New York and he attended St. Catherine's of Sienna Elementary School, Christ the King High School, and Baruch College in New York City.
Mark's first job was with Trans World Airlines (TWA). Through this job, Mark was able to travel to many places both domestically and internationally. Mark enjoyed traveling to visit family in California and Trinidad for Carnival. One of his most memorable trips was to Egypt with his father.
Mark also had an interest in sports, particularly in basketball. He started out playing pickup games, and subsequently played for his High School Varsity team at Christ the King High School in Queens, New York. Eventually, he became a basketball coach. He worked with numerous Basketball Skill Development Camps in the New York area. He also led Summer Basketball Clinics at Stony Brook University, New York. In addition, he worked as an Assistant Coach for August Martin High School in Queens, New York, and at Flagler Palm Coast High School in Palm Coast, Florida.
Mark loved spending his free time with his family and friends. While living in New York, he remained close to his sister, Marcia and mother, Sheila. He regularly made himself available to take his mother on errands, medical appointments or even just out for a hearty meal.
In the mid 2000s, Mark relocated to Palm Coast, Florida, and fulfilled his dream of becoming a homeowner. As part of his relocation, Mark joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Palm Coast. He readily became involved in Mt. Calvary's programs, services, and ministries. Through the years, Mark was part of several ministries at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. They included the Christian Education Ministry, Youth Ministry, Men's Fellowship Ministry, Transportation Ministry and Calvary Cupboard Ministry. Mark was also a Sunday School Teacher and lead his Issachar Tribe of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with pride. Mark enjoyed being active in his church and he continued his studies to become a Deacon, and was most recently Ordained a Minister. Mark's determination guided him in receiving his Doctorate Degree in Theology in 2016. One of Mark's proudest moments was being named as Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Man of the Year in 2010.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Brooke Odle; his son, Stephon Odle; his sister, Marcia McNair; in addition to aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Mark will always be remembered for his daily devotional social media posts which kept people from across the country connected to the Word of God. He will also be remembered for his gracious and loving spirit.
