Margaret Dunbar Hubert, 88, of Hastings, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at her residence. She was the daughter of Horace and Millie (Sutton) Dunbar, born on Tuesday, October 5, 1937 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Margaret was married to Author Davis Riddick, to that union three children were born. Later, she married Cleavon Hubert, Sr., and to that union, nine children were born.
Mother Hubert was a dedicated member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She served faithfully (until her health declined) on the following boards: Pastor’s Aide, Kitchen Ministry, Usher Board, and she was appointed Mother of the Church. Mother Hubert had a passion for cleaning her church. She loved solving puzzles, fishing, shopping, watching basketball, sewing, cooking, and caring for the needs of the people in her community. She was employed at Red Carpet Inn and the FL School for the Deaf and the Blind School for many years. She also worked at St. John’s Welfare Federation.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by her brothers, George Dunbar, Lee Ernest Dunbar, Richard Dunbar, Rufus Dunbar; twin brothers, Clyde and Claude Dunbar; sisters, Mary Ferebee and Millie Dunbar; daughter, Davetta Douglas; son, Cleavon Hubert, Jr.; and grandson, Cleo Anthony “Redd” Parker.
She leaves to cherish her memories: brother, Carson (Mary) Dunbar; sisters, Lucille Mallory and Cora Skinner; sons, Arthur Reddick, Jesse Reddick, Robert (Tranesha) Hubert, Paul (Kesha) Hubert, Eric Hubert; daughters, Virginia (Tinsley) McGlocking, Cleaster Parker, Julie Golden, Sirellia (Clarence) Jones, Cynthia Hubert; 46 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren; cousins; special cousins, Phil and Ella Jackson; nieces, nephews; special sons, Kevin “Sleepy” Robinson, Evan Reynolds; special daughter, Lady Artwuan (Pastor Travis) Reynolds; special caregiver, Karen Cunningham, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be held from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, May 2, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 416 Daniels Street, Hastings, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3 p.m., The Lord’s Temple City of Refuge, Hastings. Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, Senior Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment: Oak Hill West Cemetery, 712 S. Palm Ave, Palatka.
