Obituary

Marethea Griffin Brown, 71, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Putnam Community Medical Center. A native of Alachua, she was the daughter of Ruben Griffin and Rebecca Welch Taylor, born on Sunday, October 27, 1940. She was a graduate of Central Academy High School, Palatka. She has resided in Palatka for over 55 years. Marethea was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully on the Usher's Ministry, Sunday School Ministry and loved attending Bible Study for over 40 years. Marethea was formerly employed by Machek Flowers, East Palatka and the O'Carroll Home. She also operated a home-based day care center for several years. Those who preceded her in eternal rest include her parents; brothers, James, Isaiah, and David Griffin; grandson, Theoderick C. Brown. Those who cherish her memories: sons and daughters, Gordon E. Brown, Betty J. Brown, Darryl B. Brown, Sandra P. Brown, all of Palatka; Regina Y. Wright, Tampa; brother, Rufus Griffin, Daytona Beach; sisters, Betty Walds, Daytona Beach; Ruby Jordan, Ella Fells, both of Palatka; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; long-time friend til the end, "Ms. Wright", Palatka; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday June 15th at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16th, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 322 North 10th Street, Palatka, Rev. Frederick T. Demps, Pastor-Eulogist. The cortege will assemble 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Browns' residence, 414 S. 11th Street, Palatka. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
