Marcus Dewayne "Wayne" Lewis, Sr., 65, of Albany, GA, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Shamrock Nursing and Rehab Center, Dublin, GA. The son of Thomas Lewis and Thelma "Dinah" (Granger) Lewis, he was born on December 3, 1955 in Palatka, Florida. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1973 graduate of Central Academy High School. "Wayne" as he was affectionately known, played the alto saxophone in the C.A. "Marching Bulldogs" band. Upon graduation, "Wayne" enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged. He later attended Albany State University, and majored in Sociology. He received national recognition and was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. While attending Albany State, he met and married the love of his life, Debra Faye Brown in 1984 and they became the proud parents of Marcus Dewayne Lewis, Jr. He was employed as a custodian at Sunnyland Pecan Company, Albany, GA. He enjoyed playing board games, fishing, and spending time with family. "Wayne" was a specialty cook.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his maternal grandparents, Willie (Fannie) Granger, Sr. and paternal grandparents, Ceasar (Ethel) Lewis; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Debra B. Lewis, Albany, GA; sons and daughter, Valtine Lewis, Antron Lewis, both of Tampa; Chauncey Stevens, Athens, GA; Marcus D. Lewis, Jr., Albany, GA; brother, Thomas "Gerald" (Cynthia) Lewis, Palatka; mother-in-law, Willie Clyde Brown, Albany, GA; sisters-in-law, Coretta (Tony) Jones, Atlanta, GA; Kwajalein (Bishop Derrick) Thomas, San Antonio, TX; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 6:30-8 p.m., Friday, June 18; Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 19 at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity. Bishop Derrick Thomas, The Oasis at Faith Worship Center, San Antonio, TX, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
