Obituary

Dr. Mamie Lee Taylor Bryant, 90, pastor and chaplain, East Palatka, answered the eternal call to come home from her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Haven Hospice of the Lakes, Roberts Care Center in Palatka.

She was born, Monday, September 15, 1919 in Lake City, Florida to Julius and Mattie (Strawder) Taylor. She was educated in the Columbia County School District. She has resided in Putnam County for over 70 years. In 1957, she earned her Trained Practical Nurse diploma at Post Graduate Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL. She earned a B.A. and Master of Christian Education at Jacksonville Theological Seminary. In 2004, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Religious Education at St. Pauls Bible Institute. She was a former member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church and the Church of God by Faith in East Palatka. She was the founding Pastor of The House the Lord Built Holy Temple of God in East Palatka under the leadership of Bishop Walter Camps, Sr. Over her 35 years of pastoral leadership, she was 3rd assistant to the Bishop, District Home Mission President, counselor, mentor and foster mother to countless individuals; Vice President of the One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism Fellowship. She served as a Chaplain in the Putnam Community Medical Center, Haven Hospice, Putnam County Sheriffs Office, and the Putnam Correctional Institution. Mother Bryant was gospel programming director and radio host at the former WWPF (now WIYD) radio station and was formerly employed at Ideal Laundry and Dry Cleaners.

In addition to her parents; her brothers, John Harvey, George, Arthur Lee, and Edward Taylor preceded her in eternal rest.

Pastor Bryant leaves to cherish her legacy: devoted brother and sister-in-law, Samuel And Ora Bell Taylor, East Palatka; Beloved adopted children, Missionary Marie (Alfonso) Jones, Jacksonville; Everlena Esau, Gloria Bryant, both of West Palm Beach Ruthie Bryant, Palatka; Charles Bryant, Gainesville; Jimmy Bryant, East Palatka; and a host of nieces, nephews, especially devoted nieces, Nina Rene Taylor, Orlando; Shirley Capozzi, Miami; devoted nephew, George Taylor, Jr., Cocoa; other relatives and caring friends, especially her longtime devoted pastoral colleague, Dr. Ruth Lowe-Reaves.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday (today) at the Chapel of Serenity and Saturday from 10 a.m. 1 p.m. at Holy Temple of God, 123 Big Apple Road, East Palatka.

Homegoing Celebration will be 3 p.m. Saturday, February 6 at Mt Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka. Bishop Harvey Hutchinson, Jr., presiding Bishop of Holy Temple of God Churches, Inc., pastor of Landmark Holy Temple of God, Gainesville, is the eulogist.

Interment will follow in the Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka.
