Mamie Bussey Bittle, 90, of Jacksonville, traded her earthly life for eternal life on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at St. Augustine Health & Rehab Center. A native of Lincolnton, Ga., she was the daughter (one of four children) of Wilson and Vera Mae (Andrew) Bussey, born on Tuesday, September 27, 1927. She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, Lexington, NC., where she served as the chairperson of the Kitchen Committee, sang in the Choir and on the Green Thumb Ministry. She relocated to Spanish Fort, AL to assist in the care of her daughter and joined Mount Aid Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active in Sunday School and the Willing Workers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Paul Bittle, Jr.; daughter, Vera Bell Bussey Demps; brother, Frank Bussey; sister, Olivia Bussey.
She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted son-in-law, James Demps, St. Augustine; brother, Clarence Bussey of Lexington, NC; three grandchildren, James (Deitra) Demps, Jr., Letitia (Kenya) Griffin, both of Jacksonville; Paul Demps (currently serving in the Navy stationed in Bahrain); eight great-grandchildren, Brittanie, James III, Alexander, Dylan, Evan, Kylie, Jacob, Jade; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
A Memorial Celebration will be from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 2 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 322 North 10th Street, Reverend Frederick T. Demps, Pastor, officiating. A visitation will be from 6-7 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2018 at Roberts Funeral Service Chapel, 1820 S. Main St., Lexington, NC. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Friendship Baptist Church, 520 Cotton Grove Road, Lexington, NC. Interment will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
