Maggie Ruth Smith Davis, 80, of Palatka, peacefully entered the sunset of life on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Palatka Health Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Hollister, she was born on Thursday, April 28, 1932 to Johnny Dan & Ruth (Hampton) Smith, Sr. in Hollister, FL. Maggie Ruth was a graduate of Central Academy High School, class of 1950. She was united in Holy Matrimony to James Tracy Davis. She was a longtime member of Bethel A.M.E. Church where she served faithfully on Usher Board #1 until declining health prevailed. She dearly loved her pastor, Rev. James McGriff and his wife, Sister Joyce McGriff. Maggie Ruth dedicated her life's work as a Food Service Manager for Kmart Corporation, retiring in 1996 after 25 years of service. She was impressionable, nurturing, independent, and strong-willed. She loved God and her family, especially her children. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family, church, and community. In addition to her parents, Maggie Ruth was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, James Tracy Davis; and brother-in-law, Charles Green. Those who treasure her loving memories: devoted daughter, Janet Polite Ross, Hollister; beloved sons, Kenneth Davis, Palatka; Ronnie (Annie) Davis, Suwanee, GA; Kelvin (Surmary) Davis, Orlando; Keith Davis, Quincy, MA; Michael Davis, Palatka; Steven (Veronica) Shavers, Fleming Island; sister, Sally Smith Green, Miami; brother, Johnny D. (Dothea) Smith, Jr., Palatka;; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, September 14th at the "Chapel of Serenity." The Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15th, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka. The Rev. James McGriff, Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Sister Springs Cemetery, 137 Hickory Road, Interlachen. The Cortege will assemble at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Davis' family residence, 2825 Peters Street, Palatka. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Bethel A.M.E. Church, P.O.
