Mabel Williams Norwood, 99, of Miami, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at North Shore Medical Center in Miami following a brief illness. Mabel was the first child of three born to Lucious and Supora (Brown) Williams on a bright spring Tuesday, March 27, 1912 in Live Oak, FL. The Williams family moved to Green Cove Springs and she was educated in Clay County Public Schools. Mabel was converted at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church of Green Cove Springs. The family subsequently moved to Palatka. She enrolled in the Chicago School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She joined Bethel A.M.E. Church of Palatka and served on Usher Board No. 2, and numerous other Boards and Clubs. She served on Usher board No. 2, Vice-President of the C.A. Gibbs Club, Class Leader and in Hills Chapter # 48 Order of the Eastern Star. As a professional nurse, serving innumerable patients, Mabel was employed by Doctors William Ellis, Freddie Pachaeco and Pablo Michel, she retired in 1985 to travel, spend time with family, and to enjoy her favorite hobby, gardening. Mabels motto, Give me my flowers while I can still smell them, her favorite songs, May the Life That I Live Speak for Me and Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross and her favorite Scripture, Psalms 37 reveals her triumphant testimony.
