Lula Mae Beauford Mattear, 72, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, April 15, 2024 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital, Palatka. Lula, the sixth born daughter of Will and Louisa (Beauford) Mattear, was born on Friday, September 3, 1951 in East Palatka. Lula was educated in the Putnam County School District and attended Central Academy High School. She was a former member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. For almost 25 years, she was employed at Georgia-Pacific. Lula, affectionately known as "Sister," was a lively, independent, and passionate person who always spoke the truth. She exhibited lots of love to her daughter, Paula, and special great nephew, Demorrian, whom she raised.
In addition to her parents, Lula was preceded in eternal rest by her 7 brothers: Tommie, Jessie, Curtis, Willie C., Willie James, Isaac and Jerry; 3 sisters: Murline, Rutha Mae and Doretha; 2 aunts: Mable Bank and Rosa M. Love; nephew: Jessie; nieces: Thomasina, Faith and Brittney; sister-in-law: Laura W. Carter.
She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted and loving daughter, Paula (Johnny) Hutchinson; great-great nephew, Demorrian Shelmon; sisters, Christa Faison, Inez "Sug" Beauford, Ethel (Moonie) Holcy; nieces and nephews, Carl, Helen, Robin, Clayton, Kenny, Aretha, Curtis, Cynthia, Anita, Quita, Quinna, Sade, Melise, Valiery, Penny, Bryanna, Chris, Yassah, Bontrell, Darlene, Al, William, Pennygales, Phyllis, Sheila, Terrance, Jackie, Mico; cousins, Mary Howard, Johnny Dexter, Willie & Nellie Shivers; 28 great great nieces and nephews; 39 great great great nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Ollie Beauford Hill, Flora Hardy Beauford; and a host of caring friends.
Memorial Service in Lula's honor will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 27 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Lula's nephew, Pastor Chris Lee, is the eulogist.
