Obituary

Lula McClendon Jones, the daughter of Albert and Rosa Lee (Brown) McClendon, was born on Monday, January 21, 1946 in Palatka, Florida. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Lula was a lifelong member of Calvary where she dutifully served as an Usher (past president). She was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a member of the Class of 1963 at Central Academy High School.

She was a lifelong resident of Palatka. Over the years, she was employed by the Britt Family, RCMA, Vera's House of Beauty and the Putnam County School District (Transportation Department). "Ms. Lula" as she was affectionately called served faithfully for over 26 years as the office receptionist at Karl N. Flagg Serenity Memorial Chapel. When you called Flagg-Serenity's office, you more than likely heard Lula's caring and compassionate voice. She continued to be the receiver of countless calls and greeter to numerous families and visitors who needed guidance during their most difficult moments until the end of her workday at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.  Lula was an avid shopper and champion baker who also loved spending time with her family, who lovingly called her "Granny."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her sisters, Victoria Hall, Ruby Buie; brother, John "JohnnyBoy" McClendon.

Lula made her Heavenly transition on Friday, October 25, 2024 at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital, Gainesville. She fought a good fight, she finished her course, and she kept the faith.

She leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Reuben E. Jones, Jr., Fayetteville, NC; Cleveland L. Jones, Sr., New Hampton, NY; devoted daughter, Katrinia L. McKnight, Palatka; 12 grandchildren, Shondra (Tim) Blyden, Palm Coast; Tranell Tucker, Macon, GA; Kalisha Jones, Hastings, La'Sara Brooks, Kameron McKnight, both of Palatka; Caprice Byrd, Cleveland L. Jones, Jr., both of Gainesville; Chavarro (Jessica) Brown, Los Angeles, CA; Chamiracle Jones, New Hampton, NY; Travis Parker, Wallace Parker, Chellica Parker, all of Middletwon, NY; brothers, Robert Lee Brown, James (Gladys) McClendon, San Francisco, CA; Willie Joe (Carmen) McClendon, Dallas, TX; loving sister, Pamala Thomas, Palatka; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, including her beloved Flagg-Serenity family and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, November 1 at Calvary Family Life Center. Ms. Lula's Life Celebration will be 3 p.m., Saturday, November 2 at Calvary Family Life Center, 1414 Bronson Street, Palatka. Dr. Herbert L. Johnson, Jr., Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will follow in Oak Hill West Cemetery.

She's already missed and her memories will be treasured forevermore.
