Lucille Hayes Sanks, 90, of Corona, CA (formerly of St. Augustine) entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at her daughter's residence. Mrs. Sanks was born July 12, 1927 in St. Augustine, Florida, the fifth of Hodrick and Lumisha Hayes' seven children. She was raised in St. Augustine in the family that also included three sisters and one brother borne to Hodrick and Daphne Hayes. She graduated from Excelsior High School. She married Army and World War II veteran Lewis K. Sanks on Oct. 17, 1945. In 1947, the young couple moved to Newark, New Jersey where they raised their four children, Julius, Vivian, Darryl and Beverly. In 1988, Mr. Sanks retired as an engineer with Singer-Kearfott Aerospace and Mrs. Sanks retired as a school crossing guard and a juice factory worker and they returned to St. Augustine. Mrs. Sanks moved to Corona, California in April 2017, but maintained her home in St. Augustine.

Vivian Sanks King, East Orange, NJ; Dr. Beverly Sanks Guidry, Corona, CA; son-in-law, Elwood McReynolds, Corona, CA; brother, Israel Hayes, Inglewood, CA; sister, Patricia Williams, Inglewood, CA; brother-in-law, Charles Sanks Sr., St. Augustine; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hayes, Inglewood, CA; three granddaughters, Geneva Sanks Williams, Newport News, VA; Sonya Sanks Collins, Easton, PA; Nicole Strother Woodland Hills, CA; four great-grandchildren, Ebony Young, Atlanta, GA; Lewis Sanks King Jr., St. Augustine, Bryce Stolirchick, Newport News, VA; Vivionna Gordon, Easton, PA; one great-great-granddaughter, Lamaria Sanks King, St. Augustine and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Viewing will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Dawson Chapel Christian-Methodist-Episcopal Church, 225 N. Orange St. in St. Augustine. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Dawson Chapel CME Church. Reverend Allan C. Pennill, Reverend Mary C. McKinney and Reverend Clarence L. Robbins Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Sanksville Cemetery.
