Obituary

Mother Lucille McKnight-Brown, 65, of East Palatka entered the sunset of life on Friday, January 6, 2012 at her residence. A native of Vidalia, Georgia, she was born on Friday, May 17, 1946 and has resided in Putnam County since 1956. The daughter of Hosea & Dorothy (Spry) McKnight, Sr. in Vidalia, Georgia, she was educated in Toombs County Georgia School System. In 1976, she was united in marriage to Ed Brown, Jr. "Mother Brown has been a faithful servant of God at the First Born Church of the Living God for over 35 years, serving in numerous ministries: Church Mother, Pastor Aide Club, Sewing Circle, Church Maintenance Coordinator, and Interior Decorator. Her former employment was at Maychek Farms, East Palatka. In 1997, she retired from Florida Furniture Industries following over 20 years of service. Her hobbies included: Community Service, spending time assisting and helping others, Arts & Crafts, Interior Designing (especially gardening and large building projects). She enjoyed staying busy and no job was too large or too tough for such a caring mom! She was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Ed Brown Jr., (September 22, 2004); father, Hosea McKnight Sr., maternal grandparents, Clarence & Susie Spry; paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. McKnight; brother, Hosea McKnight Jr., sister, Dorothy L. Hale; Son, Ed T. Brown Sr. To cherish her memories: sons and daughters, Minister Eddie (Vontrece) Brown, Tangie (Edwin) Givens, Freddie L. Brown, all of East Palatka; Gregory (Veronica) Brown, Ventrell (Michael) Ward, both of Palatka; Loretha (Derrick) Tate, Anita Bethel, both of Atlanta, GA; mother, Dorothy M. Hale, Tallahassee; brother, Apostle Thomas J. McKnight Sr., Ocala; sisters, Elnora Hale, Betty Hadley, Andria Walker, all of Tallahassee; "just like a sister" Shirley Dallas, Palatka; 18 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. Visitation of family and Friends will be Friday, January 13, from 5-8 p.m. at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at The House of God Church, 723 North 19th Street, Palatka, Dr. Gilbert L. Evans, Jr., Pastor. Her pastor, Bishop Walter L. Smith, Sr., of First Born Church of the Living God, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka. The cortege will assemble 1:20 p.m. Saturday at the Brown's residence, 108 Citrus Lane, East Palatka.
