Obituary

Louise Jones Johnson, 84, retired homemaker of St. Augustine (lifelong resident of the Elwood Community), was quietly reclaimed by God and became our guardian angel on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at her residence. The daughter of Samuel James and Maybelle (Session) Jones, Sr., she was born on Monday, August 3, 1931. She was educated in the St. Johns County School District. At a young age, she married Andrew "AD" Johnson, Sr. and they became the proud parents of nine children. Louise was a longtime, faithful member of New Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. She took pride in cooking, cleaning, managing her household and catering to her grandchildren, picking them up from school each day, helping them do their homework, and providing snacks for all of them until their parents came.

Louise was many things to many people: she was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Momma Johnson, Momma J, Big Momma, Big Granny, Sister, Aunt Louise, Confidant, Friend and Kind Hearted Christian woman who left a legacy more valuable than gold and rubies. To the girls, she was the perfect role model for a mother and wife. She instilled in them that if they wanted to be a good wife, they needed to be able to cook, keep a clean house, and wash clothes. To the boys, she was the epitome of what to look for in a woman; however, they all knew that she was a hard act to follow and often stated that "they just didn't make them like her anymore." She gave us the gift of "family." In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in eternal rest by her son, Claude W. Johnson and great-grandson, Anthony Lewis.

She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted husband, Andrew Johnson Sr.; loving sons and daughters, Andrew (Eartha) Johnson Jr., Lorraine (Randall) Shaw, Mary Ford, Debra Shaw, Annie Shaw, Ronald Johnson Sr., Lynette Clayton, David (Deanna) Johnson Sr.; loving brothers, John (Arneitha) Session, Pernell (Malvenia) Raggins Sr.; sisters-in-law, Mozell Floyd, Dorothy Jones; 39 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, church family and many friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5:30-7 p.m., Friday, May 27 at New Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 7211 County Road 208, St. Augustine. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 28, at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 94 Evergreen Street, St. Augustine, Reverend James Sams, Pastor. Her Pastor, Reverend Travis L. Patterson, Pastor of New Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Craig Memorial Park, St. Augustine.
