Loretta Hope Chatmon, 47, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Putnam Community Medical Center following a brief illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Crescent City. She was educated in the Putnam County school system, graduating from Crescent City Junior/Senior High School, Class of 1979. Upon graduation, she briefly moved to Bridgehampton, New York and soon returned to care for her brother, Samuel Root Chatmon. She was a member of Jethro First Baptist Church, Crescent City. Loretta was well known throughout her community. She enjoyed listening to music, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

She is preceded in eternal rest by her parents, John and Fannie Mae Chatmon; brothers, Samuel Chatmon, Ernest Fuller; and godfather, Rev. James Golden, Jr. To cherish her memories: devoted companion of 11 years, Timothy Simmons, devoted cousins, Noah (Cecilia) Hardy, Jr., Goldie (Geri) Hardy, Yasmin Evans, all of Crescent City; Elnora Bush, Jacksonville, Solomon (Sadie) Herring, Raiford, FL.; and a host of other relatives and sorrowful friends.

Visitation of friends and family will be Friday, 5-8 p.m. at The Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 24th, at Victory Outreach of Pentecostal Full Gospel Worship Center, 1022 Huntington Rd., Crescent City, Apostle Bernard Tuggerson is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
