Obituary

Lonnie Johnson, 73, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Friday, June 18, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Pompano Beach, Lonnie was born on April 8, 1937 and was raised in Green Cove Springs by his paternal grandparents and in Chiefland by his maternal great-grandparents. He was the son of Sylvester Johnson and Curlease (Sanders) Williams. At the age of 19, he relocated to Putnam County and resided in San Mateo for over 20 years before returning to Palatka. He was educated in the Clay and Levy County School Districts. He was a retired machine operator at Central States Diversified where he was employed for over 20 years. His hobbies included fishing. Lonnie was of the holiness faith and attended the House of God Church.

Lonnie is preceded in eternal rest by his father, Sylvester Johnson, stepfather, Houston Williams, Sr., and Sister, Myrtle McKinney.

To cherish his memories: beloved mother, Curlease Williams, Palatka; daughters, Cherlyn (Calvin) Canty, San Mateo, Rosalyn Johnson, Orlando, Lonniesha Kelly and Ronniesha Johnson, both of Palatka; sons, Clinton Johnson, Orlando; Desmond Johnson and Lonnie Junior Johnson, both of Palatka, Lonnie Tyrone Johnson, Gainesville; stepson, Joseph Jackson, Palatka; sisters, Deloris Cook; Angela Powell; brothers, Eddie B. Sanders, Houston, Jr., Clifford, Dr. Howard T.; Rev. Hudson A., Michael & Alphonso Williams; Matthew, Steve, Edward, Gregory & Arthur Lee Johnson; 15 grandchildren ; 25 Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 9-11 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 with the Homegoing Services at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Serenity, 2400 Madison St. Palatka. Rev. Dr. Gilbert L. Evans, Jr., Pastor, The House of God Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
