Obituary

Lolamae Walden Curry entered this world on Thursday, February 22, 1934, in East Orange, New Jersey, born to Henry and Susie Walden.  She was the third of four children. From an early age Lolamae demonstrated a caring spirit and a strong sense of purpose that would guide her throughout life.

At a young age, Lola professed her love for Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church in New Jersey. She was raised and educated in East Orange, graduating from East Orange High School. While in high school, Lola volunteered as a candy striper assisting hospital staff with non-clinical tasks and, most importantly, providing comfort and companionship to patients.  Her volunteer efforts were an early display of what became a lifelong commitment to service.

After graduation, Lola entered the workforce, where her dedication and integrity quickly set her apart from other employees. Lola built a successful career at Chemical Bank, where she advanced to the position of manager. In this role, she took pride in helping others—supporting individuals as they established businesses and worked toward financial independence. Her professionalism, leadership, and compassion left a lasting impact on many.

In 1957, Lola met the love of her life, Charles T. Curry, at a party in New Jersey. After one year of courtship, they were united in marriage on May 11, 1958, becoming devoted partners for life. Their union was blessed with two cherished children, Rosalind Rene and Kevin Charles. Lola's greatest joy was her family. Some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by those whom she loved most.

Outside of work, Lola lived life fully. She enjoyed twirling and was the founder and a proud member of the Roosevelt Twirlers, where she shared her talent by teaching twirling to others. She found joy in doll making, playing tennis, cooking, baking and much more. Her commitment to service extended into the community through her active involvement in the NAACP. Lola was known for her vibrant personality. She was truly the life of the party, never allowing a dull moment to exist in her presence.

In 1998, Lola and Charles relocated to Palm Coast, Florida, where they began a new and fulfilling chapter of life. During this season, their hearts and home expanded as they became parents for a third time, lovingly raising grandson/son Brian. Faith remained central to Lola's life, and she continued her service after joining the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  Her first Mt. Calvary ministry milestone was leading the organization and opening of a children's nursery.  This was a natural progression as she had managed the same at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Roosevelt, New York.  Lola's banking management skills led her to be appointed as a trustee to support the management of the church's business affairs. She lovingly served in a variety of ministries at Mt. Calvary including the Hospitality Ministry, God Strider's Cancer Awareness and Support, Women's Ministry, Christian Education Ministry, Usher Ministry (served on post as recently as November 2025), Youth Ministry Advisor and was a past recipient of the Mt. Calvary Spiritual Parent Award.

Lola was a servant at heart. She loved helping people and made a meaningful difference in the lives of all she encountered. She was easy-going yet firm; kind but direct. Lola was no pushover. Her strength, honesty, and unwavering spirit were admired by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in eternal rest by her beloved husband, Charles T. Curry, brother, Henry J. Walden Jr. and sister Blonnie Carter.

Lola entered the sunset of life on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the age of 91, at her residence.

Cherished memories of Lola remain with her daughter, Rosalind Curry; son, Kevin Curry and daughter-in-law, Roxanne Curry; grandchildren, Shannon Curry, Justin Curry, and Brian Curry; sister, Susie H. Murray and brother-in-law, Deacon John W. Murray; sister-in-law, Velma Walden; godchild, Stacey Scott; nieces and nephews, Sherri, Art, Duane, Brenda, Jeff, Wayne, Lisa, and Ricardo "Ricky"; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; best friends, Yvonne and Dave Scott and many other loving family members, friends, and neighbors.

Lolamae Curry's legacy is one of faith, love, service, and strength. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
