Obituary

Lois Glenda Simmons Fuller, 68, of Deland, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family.  The daughter of George and Meltona (Ashe) Simmons, she was born on Wednesday, August 27, 1952 in Crescent City.  She was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1970 graduate of Crescent City Sr. High School.  She earned an Associate's and Bachelor's degree from Everest University. Early in life, Lois worked in retail at Miller's Handy Way Store where she was a manager for many years.

She was also formerly employed as an assembler at Sparton Electronics, Deleon Springs; Senior Juvenile Detention Transportation Officer at Florida Department of Juvenile Justice Detention Center; and Counselor working with juvenile delinquents at Hastings Youth Academy. Lois was also the first residential manager for Smith-Thomas Court Apartments, Crescent City, placing many families in affordable housing and worked as a house parent for the Children's Home Society until it closed in February. Lois was currently employed by the Volusia County School District as a paraprofessional at Deland Middle School.

She was reared in Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ, Crescent City. She was a member of Faith Life International Church, Deland, until declining health precluded her.

Lois was a loving person who loved her family, especially her grandchildren and was loved by everyone she met. Always extending a helping hand and a big smile, she demonstrated love through the countless meals she showered upon her family and friends. She had a big heart for people, and a much bigger heart for the students that faced difficulties in their home life. Those students inspired her to become a foster parent and she became affectionately known as "Grandma."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her husband , Ernest Fuller; sister , Jacquelyn Cowell; brothers, Timothy Simmons, Tony Simmons; grandson, Rontrice Simmons.

Lois leaves to cherish her memories:  devoted daughter , Stephanie (Anthony) Owens, Deland; sons, Ronald Simmons, Deland; Russell Simmons, South Bay; brother , Melvin (Shirley) Simmons, Bowman, SC; sisters , Joyce Simmons, Crescent City; Valerie (LeRoy) Stewart, Oro Valley, AZ; Beverly (Alex) Addison, Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren , Shala Simmons, Myiesha Simmons, Anthony Owens, Jr., Amari Owens, and Au 'Sean Owens; goddaughter, Courtney Burden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends, including: Coach and Cheryl Lord, Mr. Robinson, Mr. Franklin, and many other very dear and devoted friends too numerous to mention.
