Obituary

Lizzie Mae Lowe Hopkins, 90, of Palatka, retired chef, cook and maid, answered the eternal call of her lord and savior Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Haven Hospice of the Lakes, E.T. York Care Center, in Gainesville.

The daughter of Sam and Pearlie (Harris) Lowe, she was born Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1919, in Wilkinson County (Toomsboro) Ga. At an early age, her family moved to Taylor County (Foley) and later to Perry where she attended public school. Prior to moving to Palatka in the mid 1940s, she resided in Orlando where she was employed at the Biltmore Hotel. Over many years, she dedicated her services to the care of the E.B. O'Hara and the H.H. Tanner families. On Feb. 14, 1974, she was united in marriage to Jim H. Hopkins Sr. Mother Hopkins was a loyal, longtime member of the Church of God by Faith where she served on the Mothers Board. She enjoyed cooking, doing charity work in the community, and spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She was an avid wrestling fan. Ms. Lizzie was preceded in eternal rest by her parents; beloved husband, Jim H; three brothers, Eddie, Paul and Hollis Lowe; three sisters, Marguerite Lowe Hill, Irene Lowe Williams, Doretha Lowe Bell; grandson, Minister Ronald Word; stepgrandson, Sammy Ray McCoy.

Those who cherish lifetime memories: two daughters, Mae Frances Word, Palatka, and Evangelist Margaret H. Harris (husband, Bobby), Gainesville; two brothers, Benjamin F. Lowe (wife, Ethel) and Curitus Lowe both of Palatka; stepdaughters, Mable McCoy (husband, Sam), Jacksonville; Naomi Hughes (husband, Dale), Atlanta; stepson, Jim H. Hopkins Jr., Tampa; six grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 3-6 p.m. Saturday with a 4 p.m. Memorial Service at the Church of God by Faith, 1511 Washington St., Palatka. The cortege will assemble 2:15 p.m. Sunday at the Hopkins' longtime residence, 913 N. 16th St. Homegoing Celebration will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29th at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Her devoted Pastor, Elder Phillip Thomas is the eulogist and her grandson, General Overseer Christopher J. Harris I, Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise, Greensboro, N.C., will preside.

Interment will be in the Oak Hill West Cemetery.
