Obituary

Lila M. Belton Kelly, 75, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Putnam Community Medical Center. The daughter of Ellison Belton and Lallie (Boulware) Belton, she was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka, born August 5, 1934.

She was a graduate of Central Academy High School, class of 54. She earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. She furthered her education at Bethune-Cookman College,, earning a B.S. in Elementary Education. Mrs. Kelly was a Secretary and part-time Teacher at the former Collier-Blocker Juniors College, Palatka (1963-64); Flagler County School District- Bunnell Elementary School (1969-1987); Wadsworth Elementary School (1987-2003); she retired following 34 years of meritorious service. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church; serving as a Church Trustee; Usher Ministry, Missionary and Senior Ministry; the honor of Trustee Emeritus was bestowed upon her in 2009. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and visiting the sick.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by one sister, Daisyetta Barnett one brother, Theodore Belton.

She leaves to cherish her legacy: Devoted Husband, Nolan Kelly, Jr., Palatka; son, Nolan Kelly, III, Daytona Beach; brothers, Robert (Gussie) Belton, Jacksonville, Sam (Grace) Belton, Philadelphia, PA, Hastings Belton, Palatka, Clarence (Ruby) Belton, Oakland, CA, Jimmie Lee Belton, Jacksonville; sisters, Mary Davis, St. Petersburg, Eleanor (Cornell) Young, Sicklerville, NJ, Hazel Ettison, Palatka; and a host of other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday (Today) June 11, at The Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 4 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, is Eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
