Levonia Holsey (Floyd), 76, of Hamilton, NJ, entered the sunset of life on Monday, May 1, 2023 at her Hamilton, New Jersey residence. The daughter of Georgian Gilyard and Leroy Floyd, she was born on Monday, September 16, 1946 in Long Branch, New Jersey. She was educated in the Putnam County School District at Central Academy, Class of 1965. She worked as a custodian at Moseley Elementary. Throughout the years, "Vonia" harvested produce in agricultural fields along the east coast of the country. "Vonia" returned to Cranberry, New Jersey in 1977. In later years, she worked as an Environmental Services Technician at an assisted living facility. Her hobbies included crocheting and solving crossword puzzles. Levonia was of the Christian faith and a member of New Bethel AME Church, San Mateo where she sang in the choir.
Levonia was preceded in eternal rest by her parents Georgian Gilyard and Leroy Floyd, Wilmer Gilyard, Sr.; maternal grandparents: Izola McGee Murdock, James and Eunice Holsey, paternal grandparents, Aaron and Isabel Gilyard, Vance and Rachel Floyd, Sr.; sons: Alfred Raye Floyd, Earnest Floyd; brothers: Rodney (Cynthia) Gilyard, Sr., Hilton Floyd; sister, Hazel L. McKinnon; aunts: Ferline Keenon, Eunice Holsey, Grace Holsey, Marion Hagan; uncles, Vance Floyd, Jr., Clarence Gilyard, Jethro Floyd.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: children: Debra (Darnell) Fenderson-Ivery, Hamilton, NJ, Laquita "Shawn" (Nathan) Stokes, Jacksonville; Cory (Shawnee) Floyd, Sr., Wilmington, DE; grandchildren: Sharae (Dominique) Scott, Rector, PA; Donald (Jasmine) Floyd Sr., Brittney Cooper, both of Jacksonville; Cory Floyd Jr., Wilmington, DE; Jayla Harris, Trenton, NJ; great grandchildren: Nehemiah Scott, Gabriel Scott, Eli Scott, Eliana Scott, and Micah Scott, all of Rector, PA; Deshawn Floyd, Honesti Floyd, Donald Floyd Jr., Amelia Floyd, Robert Ingram, Jr., Taylor Ansley, all of Jacksonville; brothers: Wilmer (Jacqueline) Gilyard Jr., Jacksonville; Larry (Linda) Gilyard, Donald (Beverly) Floyd, Michael Floyd, all of Palatka; Shelton Gilyard Sr., Mitchell McKinnon Jr., Leroy Floyd, all of San Mateo, Fredrick (Clare) McKinnon, Atlanta, GA; sisters: Regina (Harry) Gilyard-Thomas, Sandra Gilyard, Helen Gilyard, all of San Mateo; Sharon "Sherry" Hardy, Palatka; aunts: Lillian Lee and Lilla Holsey, both of San Mateo; daughter-in-law, Karry Floyd; special friends: Curtis Davis, Belinda Jackson, Donald Patterson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public Visitation: 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2023 at New Bethel AME Church, 154 N. Boundary Road, San Mateo. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2023, Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave., Palatka. Levonia's sister, Rev. Sandra Gilyard, Pastor, New St. James AME Church, San Mateo, is the eulogist. Interment: Old San Mateo Cemetery.
