November 30, 1948 – March 7, 2024
Leroy Jackson, Sr., 75, of Knoxville, TN (formerly of Palatka), entered the sunset of life on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville, TN. The son of Woodrow and Aretha Jackson Peoples and stepfather Jaufees Peoples Sr., Leroy was born on Tuesday, November 30, 1948 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and a graduate of Central Academy High School. Leroy was employed with Putnam County School District and Penn Gulf Industrial Services. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp, where he later retired due to injuries received during the Vietnam era. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (1 star), Vietnam Campaign Medal and Rifle Marksmanship Badge. Leroy enjoyed all sports and fishing.
In addition to her parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his brothers, Woodrow Jackson Jr., Willie Louis "Buddy" Jackson Sr., and Jaufees Peoples, Jr.; sisters, Mary Francis Myles, Margaret Cobb, Annette Walton and Mary Goss.
Leroy leaves to cherish his memories: sons and daughters, Leroy Jackson, Jr., Clifton Jackson, Subrina Brinson, all of Palatka, Cynetress Davis, Jacksonville; Tammi Johnson, New York; Lillie Jackson, Athens, Tennessee; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Jackson, Sr, Palatka; sisters, Evangelist Angia Graham, Deland; Shirley Washam, Pairlee Andrews, both of Palatka, J. Lee Bartley, Arkansas; and a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Leroy's Life will be 12 noon, Saturday, March 30 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity" with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka.
