Leroy "Cheetahroy" Sanders, 90, of Green Cove Springs, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Aspire at Green Cove Springs. The son of Manuel and Laura Sanders, he was born on Friday, January 12, 1934 in Monticello, Florida. At a young age, Leroy relocated to Penney Farms, Florida with his family. He was educated in the Clay County School System. He was employed by the Penney Farms Retirement Community until his retirement. Leroy gave his life to the Lord at an early age. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served in many capacities: Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Usher Board, and Deacons' Ministry. Leroy was ordained as a deacon at First African Baptist Church. He later joined The Lord's Church Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Roundtree. Leroy enjoyed watching scary movies, riding his bicycle, and playing shuffleboard and board games with family. He loved to catch and eat fish, and cruise around the community.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in eternal rest by his brothers, Manuel Sanders, Jr. and John H. Sanders Sr.; sisters, Dorothy Sanders Coleman and Eva Mae Sanders Haymon; first wife, Dorothy Coleman Sanders; second wife, Lillie Jean Snell Sanders.

Leroy leaves cherished memories with his stepchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5:30- 7 p.m., Friday, April 19; Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 20, at New Hope Baptist Church, 4395 Palmetto Ave., Penney Farms, FL 32079. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Green Cove Springs, FL.
